A bed is the largest piece of furniture in the bedroom. Its height shapes the room more significantly than color or style. Low beds are therefore more than just a trend: they change how a room feels.
Spatial effect: more headroom
A low bed keeps the sightline clear. Your gaze travels over the bed, making the ceiling appear higher and the room larger. This makes a noticeable difference, especially in small bedrooms, older buildings with stucco, or rooms with slanted ceilings.
Added to this is the sense of calm: a low-profile bed does not crowd the space. It suits minimalist interiors, Scandinavian living, and Japanese-inspired bedrooms alike.

Comfort: who is a low bed suitable for?
Whether a low bed is comfortable depends primarily on getting up. As a guide: the sleeping surface—meaning the bed and mattress together—should be at approximately knee-pit height if you want to be able to stand up effortlessly. The lower the bed, the more strength is required to rise.
- Well-suited for anyone who is mobile, enjoys sleeping close to the floor, or likes to snuggle with children in bed.
- Less suitable for people with knee or back issues—a higher bed is more comfortable in these cases.
- Tip: A thicker mattress raises the sleeping surface without making the bed frame itself look higher.
Our plug-in bed is available in three heights: low, medium, and high. If you decide you would like to sleep higher later on, you can simply swap out the four supports using the height conversion kit.
Cleaning: staying clean despite being low to the floor
There is little room to vacuum under a low bed—and dust likes to collect exactly there. Three things help:
- Open construction: A bed with space between the slats allows air to circulate. The mattress stays dry, and dust is easier to remove.
- Smooth floors: On wood or tile, a slim vacuum attachment can reach under almost any bed.
- Dismountable: A bed that can be quickly taken apart can simply be moved aside for deep cleaning. Our plug-in bed is assembled without screws and can therefore be easily disassembled.
Low bed or floor bed?
The lines are blurred. A "floor bed" usually refers to beds where the sleeping surface is only a few centimeters above the ground. You can read about what to consider in our article Floor beds for adults: pros and cons.
